In honor of Immigrant Heritage Month, we are sharing personal stories from members of our technology team. You’ve seen their work in the immigration management platform. Now, learn about what drives them.

Where are you from?
My maternal grandmother is Ukrainian. My paternal grandfather was mostly of English and Irish descent and his wife is German.

What do you love about your heritage?
I love that I’m still exploring my heritage and what it means to be the result of all these people coming together. I love how heritage and cultures evolve when combined. The ambiguity of not knowing part of my origin is also interesting but I plan on taking the 23andMe (a genetic mapping provider) test over the summer for more clarity.

Why is immigration important to you?
I grew up in a small town with limited information about American history. The books I’ve read as an adult are enlightening and heartbreaking. Discrimination concerning immigration, cultures and heritages continue to this day on a large and a small scale. It’s important to me to vote for people who fight for inclusivity and respect for immigrants. The American project is beautiful in theory but we have a lot of work to do.

Why did you choose VISANOW as your place of employment?
I searched for the right company for six months before falling in love with VISANOW. I wanted to work for a place that didn’t just say they were inclusive but actually were, a company that didn’t just talk about changing the world but actually does. I can’t wait to see how we continue to evolve.
